Documentation

Description:
Input Data for Figure 2.11 from Chapter 2 of the Working Group I (WGI) Contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). Figure 2.11 shows observed global temperature change over a wide range of timescales. --------------------------------------------------- How to cite this dataset --------------------------------------------------- When citing this dataset, please include both the data citation below (under 'Citable as') and the following citation for the report component from which the figure originates: Gulev, S.K., P.W. Input data are provided for panel b and panel c (lower panel). --------------------------------------------------- List of data provided --------------------------------------------------- Panel b: - gridded file of observed trends (as ASCII text) and significance overlay. Separate notes document. Panel c (lower panel): - Global surface temperature, relative to 1850 - 1900 for annual and decadal means from instrumental data for 1850–2020, along with the uncertainty range from HadCRUT5. --------------------------------------------------- Data provided in relation to figure --------------------------------------------------- Panel b: - IndermediateData_Figure-2_11-HadCRUT_significance_overlay_1981-2020.txt - IntermediateData_Figure-2_11-HadCRUT_significance_overlay_1900-1980.txt - IntermediateData_Figure-2_11-HadCRUT_trends_1900-1980.txt - IntermediateData_Figure-2_11-HadCRUT_trends_1981-2020.txt Panel c: - Figure_2_11c-lower_panel.csv; relates to the lower part of the figure. (black line, column 2, HadCRUT 5.0; cyan line, column 3, NOAA Global Temp; pink line, column 4, Berkeley Earth; orange line, column 5, Kadow et al.; grey shadow, columns 6 and 7, HadCRUT confidence limit) HadCRUT5 is a gridded dataset of global historical surface temperature anomalies relative to a 1961-1990 reference period produced by the Met Office Hadley Centre. NOAA Global Temp is a gridded dataset of global historical surface temperature anomalies relative to a 1971-2000 reference period produced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Berkeley Earth is a global historical land-ocean temperature index produced by Berkeley Earth. --------------------------------------------------- Notes on reproducing the figure from the provided data --------------------------------------------------- Figure 2.11b - this is an ASCII grid (described in Figure_2_11-notes_on_HadCRUT_trend_files.txt) with a significance overlay. Should be approximately reproducible with any standard software to produce maps from gridded data. Figure 2.11c (lower panel), link to the code to reproduce this part of the figure is provided in the Related Documents section of this catalogue record. --------------------------------------------------- Sources of additional information --------------------------------------------------- The following weblinks are provided in the Related Documents section of this catalogue record: - Link to the figure on the IPCC AR6 website - Link to the report component containing the figure (Chapter 2) - Link to the Supplementary Material for Chapter 2, which contains details on the input data used in Table 2.SM.1 - Link to the code for the figure, archived on Zenodo.
