Provenance

Source:
Urban emissions data based on data published as: Gurney, K. R., S. Kilkis, K. Seto, S. Lwasa, D. Moran, K. Riahi, M. Keller, P. Rayner, M. Luqman, 2021: Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Global Cities Under SSP/RCP Scenarios, 1990 to 2100. EarthArXiv, doi:10.31223/X5Z639. Gurney, K. R., S. Kilkis, K. Seto, S. Lwasa, D. Moran, K. Riahi, M. Keller, P. Rayner, M. Luqman, 2022: Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Global Cities Under SSP/RCP Scenarios, 1990 to 2100. Glob. Environ. Chang., 73, 102478, doi: 10.1016/j.gloenvcha.2022.102478. Data processing or treatment: CO2-eq emissions from global urban areas in seven SSP-RCP variations spanning the 1990 to 2100 time period have been established in Gurney et al. (2021). Two of the urban emissions scenarios that represent resource efficient and compact urbanization (SSP1-RCP1.9) and urbanization with moderate progress (SSP2-RCP4.5) are compared in Figure TS.13. This figure is based on Figure 8.13 and Figure 8.14 in IPCC AR6 WGIII Chapter 8 on "Urban Systems and Other Settlements." Figure 8.14 is produced by comparing the 2020 values of urban emissions in the SSP1-RCP1.9 and SSP2-RCP4.5 scenarios with the year 2030 values. The WGIII AR6 6-region aggregation can be found in Annex II of the AR6 WGIII Report, 2022.
